I'm slowly settling in at this beautiful university town, Ithaca.There are so many nice and warm people here.It helps me cope with the cold (look at the snow!)
Last night Andrew organised a dinner and he had some close friends from New York City, Wisconsin and Cornell itself. We had very nice foods prepared by his lovely wife. And what a pleasant company too.
I bought a nice pair of red boots to walk in the snow.And a rice cooker which made me very much at home after cooking a Chinese-style lunch at my apt.
The first day I arrived (Feb 16) I had to shovel snow from the pavement.What an exercise.I think I will lose weight easily here. Ithaca is hilly and steep and the uni is some distance away.Everyone says it's walking distance not knowing the Msian attitude towards walking...but I'll do it to save money. :))

Nampak gambar memang la nice tapi Ibu dah macam air batu kat sini kesejukan.
Once Ibu dah sorted out things, Ibu pun nak tengok Music and Lyrics walaupun getik tengok Barrymore menggeladi in the movie (I saw promo depa on TV kat sini).Kat luar movie pun dia mcm tu.Grant pun menggeladi juga la gamaknya, ya? I'd still vote for Bridget Jones.Dia tu ada poise sikit.

Hari ni rasa mcm susah betul.Nak connect ph pun byk cikadak.Tak leh call out of Ithaca but can receive calls from outside USA.Tu pun berbayar tu.Kalau kat Australia, senang sgt nak install ph.Sigh.
My ID pun 2 minggu baru siap.Tapi my Dept bagi surat sementara utk I masuk lib and naik bus free.So everytime naik bas, kalau nak free, tunjuk je surat tu pada driver.Malu juga rasanya.Bayangkan kertas A4 tu. Org lain tunjuk ID card size IC.Besok I pi tengok office I.Harap2 ada internet connection sebab the one at home ni limited sgt (maklum free wireless)Every 15 mins disconnect.Pulak tu tak leh access gmail mails.Nak plan trips for my research pun susah cos' all are done on gmail.Sigh.
Nak makan daging halal kena order melalui internet.Kesian betul.
So, you are having a stint at Ithaca? Lucky you! I do not envy you in that snowy weather tho ... had enough of it. I still prefer Adelaide's weather & life.

jb: sebenarnya I pun suka Australia but the Cornell experience is something I need.The library best gila.It is at this point I feel I don't want to go home!The snow is slowly melting down.I must get pics of the frozen creeks/rivers before they get cair.I have never walked so much in my entire life.But in the icy unpolluted air, it is something treasured and one which I will look back fondly or write nostalgic poems!
Shima: I'm here on Fulbright (4 months)Tapi tersilap rancang.Ingat winter dah habis tengok2 this year winter start late (dia tunggu I dtg gamaknya) Cornell yang tak pernah2 tutup sepanjang hayatnya tahun ni tutup sebab heavy snow.3-4 kaki.I was told in a northern part, lagi macam 6 -8 kaki.Tu dah macam kubur air batu.
Aha...at last i got some news from u.anyway pls share anything from states with us here."Happy belated2 birthday"more matang than ever.tapi i do feally hope u masih gila2 like masa dulu.I ada cerita dengan my kids about a friend yang mama dia close (u lah).I still remembered those days yang u (termasuk i )everyday dok main copy aja dari zita dia punya kerja rumah add maths.old stories....

Ala Sharida...kalau pasal cerita add maths ni..banyak.I don't know why old friends suka sgt cerita pasal subject yang satu ni.Lip Leong after 25 years jumpa I cakap: I even forget my wife's bday but your add maths story (I won't go public on this) remains with me forever! Ha ha.Tak suka Add Maths.Cikgu dia suka ajar dalam Bahasa Cina atau suka punish kalau tak reti nak buat atau kalau fail.Itu la pasal (find blame! find blame!)

ithaca..? is really nice for a name! i used to listen some tunes by "Seeking Ithaca"...never thought it was a name for a town. cant access gmail?

Anyway, Ithaca in New York State ni was named after an island in Greece tapi dia berbukit2 dan bergunung ganang.So lagu seeking Ithaca tu mungkin nama Greek gal or greek island tu.Saya ragu Ithaca NY ni sebab dot dot (kang berasa pulak hati org Cornell kalau saya tulis yang buruk2).Tapi saya suka environment university dia dan library dia.Best sgt.Library UIA tu macam one wing of one of their libraries je.heh heh
