International Muslim Youth Camp and Peacebuilding Workshop

Bro Wilmot, on Muslim Aid

Ekraj in action

Amidst weddings and alumni homecoming dinner and tahlil, the week began on a high note.

1. Today's the launching of the International Muslim Youth Camp which the office, Muslim Unity,ISD and S-DEV help sponsor (officiated by Ali Rustam. He's interesting but can't speak.I think our leaders need to take special classes on public speaking. And language classes.Do extra lah to address international audience).

Baibonn, Ekraj, Zahrah arrived last nite.Ekraj flew from Spain.Met them all this morning.Had a meeting with Fadhulah Wilmot to find ways how we can assist him with his Muslim Aid work. They have done a lot to eradicate poverty around the world especially in Muslim countries.

Wardina picked her dad.I went to say hello (cantiknya wanita celebrity bertudung ini!)

2. The 3-day peacebuilding workshop will start tomorrow.Till late in the evening.I want to be part of it.They have a nice module.

3. Long is still at HUKM.We went visiting on Saturday. The whole clan went. She says she's dying.

4. Urban Retreat massage.Hadoi, I need a break. We have Chiengmai on the list but it may not be safe still. So may end up in Redang or Perhentian. The question is when?

5.Mak got her new maid.Phew.

6.Guys, I have no time to update my blog.Too many happenings, too fast.

I must jot this: yesterday at the workshop we saw Muslim youth in action. The first few minutes, they could not even organise themselves (there were too many in a group and it was such a diverse group. They came from all over). We found these:

1.Some could not work with women, mixed in the group (a handful and surprisingly, this group came from an open, western country. The Africans were the most easy going and active)

2.Our facilitators were not used to working with all-Muslim participants (they usually work with interfaith groups)so there were some Islamic culture sensitivies like students protested over giving animal names to groups (Baibonn pun satu..dia pi namakan group 1 "Dog".One student said we Muslims must give good names and must not give animal names.Nagat and I kat belakang dah gelak2.We thought this is us.We can't even organise ourselves to get into a group! But we sorted the matter amicably. In the end, the kids had names like Allahuakbar, Subhanallah.Nagat said yang all male group tu call themselves astaghfirullah.I thought it was real. But she was only kidding me.Hahaha.

I think at the end of the session, the experience was a beautiful one.The kids enjoyed themselves. We learned a few things about ourselves.

Tak nampak pun.Msian takda you...rugi betul.Depa kata sakit gigilah.Sakit kepala lah...sigh.Kita bagi peluang tak mau ambik...anyway, today punya group lagi kelakar.Drop by kalau you ada masa.Habis April 30 jam 6 pm.I'm enjoying myself as I jot down strengths and weaknesses of Muslims in peace/conflict (can be detected in activities they do)Byk indecisiveness, kurang mendengar (everyone wants to speak at the same time when trying to solve problems, takda listening skills. Also problems usually arise caused by our failure to communicate effectively and clearly)

But our kids are lovable! And creative. And kelakar!

Mary: Thanks for the recommendation but I think I prefer leaving messages here and reading others at my own pace/time (real time can be quite intrusive.Nanti satu hari tak kerja!)
