Every year, all kulliyyah will hold their ibadah camps..spiritual retreats to train us to be God-conscious in everything we do.Part 1 started today on campus.Next week, we are going out of KL..tempatnya misteri.Just watch this space. :)
Prof Malik Badri spoke on education in Islam (he's known to be one of the foremost Muslim psychologists in the world specialising in Islamic Psy).If the West stresses on cognitive, affective and behavioural domains, Islam adds a 4th dimension: spiritual domain and even the west is now shifting towards spirituality..stressing on the aspects of forgiveness, kindness etc in life.I mean look at the likes of Leonard Cohen kan? Or Russell Brand.Even Richard Gere now. They'd start with Buddhism or Hinduism dulu.
Anyway what I liked most today was the importance of being compassionate in our dealing with others.Prof Malik related a story which happened in Africa (he's Sudanese but had taught in various places around the world) of an African who approached a Muslim telling him he wanted to embrace Islam. The Muslim man said ahh..we have to circumcise you first. The African guy got scared and told him he changed his mind. The Muslim guy said now that you had changed your mind, we have to cut your head. :))
Jokes aside, such an attitude is so prevalent in the Muslim community among those who do not fully understand the essence of Islam which is compassion and love :rahman and roheem.Prof Malik said someone would get so agitated seeing a Muslim woman who wears tudung with her hair jutting out (jambul terkeluar). The woman would be harassed on doing the right thing till she'd probably get sick and say I won't wear my scarf anymore.Prof Malik said to wear it is better than not to wear it.Tarbiyah is something done gradually..look at how Allah phased out drinking in the Quran..in stages..not in one go.Prof Malik gave examples of early days Muslim psychologists treating their subjects in stages (to change their behaviour or bad habit).
I like ibadah camp.Mana ada tempat kerja yang cakna pasal staff dia nak masuk neraka/syurga.This is how we are trained to tame our hearts and bad desires.A teacher does not only teach but will need to lead and live good examples.Next week kita buat qiyamulail, lots of tazkirahs and discussions on self corrections.
Syukurlah di atas peluang membaiki diri sebegini.Ku pohon keikhlasan di dalam apa juga ibadah yang dilakukan.
