Syukur alhamdulillah, Z got Shell award to read Econs overseas! No Malaysian government agency awards her anything (JPA shortlisted her but she tak dapat atas sebab tak cukup A...straight As pun tak cukup lagi? 4A+, 4A and 2A-.Kalau A- takda nilai, why bother introducing it?.I wrote to TPM, PM...semua takda responses...ada pun keluar TPM's statement saying how transparent they are in their selection.Well..if excellence is measured solely on no of As..then I have nothing to say...personality/critical thinking/creative checks which one can access through interviews and co-curricular activities are worth 5-10% je.Padan lah we get leaders yang suka duduk je dari rolling up their sleeves to work with rakyat on the ground.Or ramai officers yang tak aktif in gomen agencies.Then kerja tak jadi cepat mana pun!)
They should learn from Shell how Shell makes its selection (gruelling! but I think they got the best.Not becos' anak I dapat award from Shell but masa lepas interviews tu..berlapis2 interviewnya OK? we told ourselves..kalau Z tak dapat pun kami puas hati.She was fully tested).
Well now..it's up to Z.Dia dah nampak selesa buat Law at IIUM.I told her buat both Econs and Law kalau sayang sangat ke law nya tu.
PNB sampai sekarang no news (dah dekat berapa bukan ni).PNB kasi buat Law overseas.Kalau anak sendiri tak kasi susu dan berok2 di hutan tu didulukan...apa nak buat.The gomen seems not to have strategic mind to groom future leaders.Asyik2 nak favour medicine, science-based applications..there should be a nice balance, really!

Xlan...terima kasih dan benar..kadang2 kita tak tau perancangan Allah. Tapi rasa geram kat gomen ada lagi.Rasa sedih pun ada ~ bagi mereka yang tidak dapat apa2.Ini satu kes yang berjaya.Berapa ramai lagi yang lain tapi tak dapat tempat hanya sebab gomen tak pandai nak plan budget biasiswa untuk pelajar2 cemerlang.Sebenarnya kalau depa pandai budget, tak timbul isu 'race' (bagi lebih kat Cina ke Melayu ke kurang kat India ke)>buat la planning betul2..tengok keputusan akhir Form 4..agak2 berapa yang akan dapat straight As..plan well for them.Criteria yang ada tu merosakkan negara.Kita bukan nak researchers (straight As) but workers...leaders..doers.So saya kira cara pilihan tu kena lebih teliti.Kalau kat private giant company I know..masa interbiu, dia tengok cara kita jalan pun dia dah tau nak employ ke tak kerana kalau jalan slow, boleh ke diharap bila buat kerja nanti boleh jadi lipas kudong? Jawabannya sudah tentu mustahil.So co-curriculum tu patut bagi markah tinggi lagi.Interview mesti bagi lebih.
Good for her! A law degree can be done anytime; and there are a lot of distance learning courses, from very reputable unis.
owh, great to here this!! I know people always say a lot of things regarding government scholarship's selection, but if one is good, she'll eventually succeed anywhere.
I hope she would accept that offer. After all there are not many people interested to read economics these days.. could be the next Zeti Akhtar, perhaps?

Misserra: I believe that too but opportunities are very important.Tapi sebenarnya Allah dah tentukan segala2nya.But we don't know till we try all avenues, kan? Thks for your assistance during our difficult times.I hope Z will grow to love Finance/Econs as she did Law.Mana tau, boleh ke Wall Street pulak.Kalau dia ambik Islamic Finance lagi bagus.But I will not dictate anymore.Let her decide her future from now on.
